Back Story

Let Me Love is reflection on the state of society and our alienation from a healthy and natural state of existence. The song is crying out against how the shortcomings of our oppressive social systems continually prevent the world from developing in a way that doesn't degrade the environment and the nature of our relations to one another across the globe.

The song is identifying that to create something new and better, just being compliant, safe and doing as is expected is not going to bring about the world we want. To achieve freedom from the trappings of an unhealthy society we have to break free and dare to do the unknown, extraordinary, unexpected and expect to be criticised, judged and misunderstood.

At the time of writing this song, I was just sick of so much I was seeing around me. So sick of dusty polluted roads and traffic, sick of seeing this unhealthy society continue to just reproduce its own survival day-by-day, never to stop to recognise the gross exploitation and disgusting behaviour that this system incentivises for its own perpetuation. I was tired of always seeing people spreading hate about people different to them. I just felt so tired and all that made me feel good was the idea of a better beautiful place out there, one that we could actually have agency and influence in, rather than being passive participants of an indifferent society.

The call of the song is to get away from this system we are born into and create something new. It's saying why do we hold on to this state of existence? If tomorrow things were very different would we miss the society we exist in today or how much would we be glad to be rid of? I'm also trying to envisage what this new freedom would look and feel like and what it would take to reach it.

Many mouths they talk but few eyes open to see
We stuck among them fool who've not yet learned from history
And yes I know there is no world where Everyone will agree
But this world won't let me love
This world won't let me love
Drive thrus, trash cans, cess pools, badmans
Tryn'a say some day, we lost out way
Some rude, some foolish, the worst breed hate
This world don't give no, it was built on take
Don't provide the tools we need to make
A fairer world, oooh, let's make a break 'cos
This world won't let me love
This world won't
Let me love
Let go to flow of fate and don't look back?
Reach beyond the great unknown and never look back?
Dream beyond the great unknown could you ever do that?
If this reality was ever overthrown would you ever look back?
Open the door freedom flow through your hair
Be part of some people that really don't care
Where deeds are done in love not fear
What good are rules in a system that don't reward fair
A world of plenty awaits for those who dare

Oooh, wont' you help me find another day
'Cos this world won't let me love
This world won't let me love
This world won't let me love
This world won't let me love
We'll let go to flow of fate and never look back?
Reach beyond the great unknown and never look back?
Dream beyond the great unknown could you ever do that?
If this reality was ever overthrown would you ever look back?
Reach beyond the great unknown could you ever do that?
Dream beyond the great unknown could you ever do that?
Let go to the flow of fate and never look back
Dream beyond the great unknown could you ever do that?
If this reality was ever overthrown would you ever look back
Dream beyond the great unknown could you ever do that?
